HyeonSoo Yu majored in Molecular Biosciences. During undergraduate studies, He learned that cells accumulate various types of stress throughout life, which ultimately leads to cellular aging. He wanted to explore the wide range of factors and mechanisms influencing aging from multiple perspectives, and joined the Yang Lab.
His research focuses on the epigenetic changes that occur with aging and how they affect cellular function. He aims to identify aging-associated epigenetic markers and develop strategies to control them, with the goal of reprogramming aged cells into a youthful state. Through this research, he hopes to enhance cellular function and reverse cellular senescence while preserving cellular identity, ultimately contributing to overcoming aging.
In modern society, where life expectancy is rapidly increasing, aging has become a universal experience. However, aging at the cellular level negatively impacts the entire body, and significantly reduces quality of life. He aspires to overcome the barriers of aging and contribute to a society where aging is no longer something to be feared.
