Namkyung Do

Undergraduate student

Namkyung majored in Stem Cell and Regenerative Biotechnology during his undergraduate studies. From a young age, he has hoped for a world in which everyone can live long, healthy, and happy lives. He studied ways to apply stem cells to the treatment of human diseases, and through this process, he developed a strong interest in epigenetic reprogramming. However, he came to realize that, unlike other tissues or organs in the body, the brain has significant limitations when it comes to the creation and transplantation of artificial organs using stem cells. Because the brain accumulates memories, learning, and emotions over a lifetime, he believes that creating and transplanting a new brain would essentially mean becoming a different person. For this reason, he joined the Yang Lab. He hopes to study ways to restore aged or diseased brains to a healthy and youthful state. In particular, he is interested in inducing cellular rejuvenation in the brain through chemical cocktail–based partial reprogramming. Ultimately, he hopes to contribute to building a world in which no one suffers from disease and everyone can live happily.
