Songhee believes a healthy brain is the fundamental base of a thriving society. While at KAIST, Songhee explores various fields of study related to the brain, constantly seeking promising ways to contribute to long-term health. In particular, she views aging reprogramming as a powerful strategy for maintaining a strong and healthy brain. During sophomore year, Songhee was introduced to epigenetics and became fascinated by the idea that genetic destiny is not predetermined but can be altered depending on how it is read. This realization made a strong interest in the brain’s epigenetic mechanisms and their role in aging. She aims to study brain aging at the molecular, cellular, and systemic levels and understand its underlying processes. Outside of the lab, Songhee enjoys discovering new cool places, loves sandwiches with a good cup of coffee, and unwinding through camping trips.
